Don't forget to see the green house and all the bonsai trees.Oh take an empty bottle with you since they have free filtered water refill in many places. So many butterflies and they even have an area where you can see larva, pupa etc. Also they have a butterfly garden which costs about $6 for non-member. They also have a model train garden for kids that you have to pay separately. Go during peak summer time(Late June-Aug) so that you can see the Roses and other flowers. They have themed gardens like English, Rose, Japanese etc. As far as the plants and flowers go, there's just so many different types. Pretty reasonable and they have coffee and tea too. As soon as you walk in thru the main entrance, there's information booth, restrooms, gift shop and a restaurant which they have redone recently in terms of food and seating. If you go multiple times a year, I recommend becoming a member. Parking fee is $25 for cars and if you are a Cook county resident, there's a discount. It took almost 30 minutes to get from the main road to the fee booth by car which is only 1/4 mile probably. It was a nice day and long weekend and so needless to say, it was slightly crowded. Last time I went was couple of days ago during the memorial day weekend. I have been here few times already during almost all seasons, sometimes by myself, sometimes with family and sometimes with friends. Development is under way to connect some existing trails to the Gardens. Do note that while admission is free, there is a $25/car parking fee. Fortunately the Gardens are open until sunset, so if you want to get in a few less crowded weekend hours, try later in the day. The only caution I'd offer is that just after lunchtime on a weekend day is when everyone thinks a visit to the gardens would be a great idea, so it can be a wait to just get in the parking lot.
Beautiful weather chicago plus#
There's a formal English Garden, plus so much more. Looking one way you see a manicured Japanese garden, then turning your head you'll see a beautiful waterfall garden which one can admire from many levels and vistas. Facilities are top notch, from the Exhibit areas - both inside and out - to the Garden Cafe and the Science Center, complete with living green roof and solar panels. It's a surprisingly large facility off Lake Cook Road in Glencoe, although not a lengthy drive from the Loop. Very much blown away by a recent visit to the Chicago Botanic Garden.
